MAIN ENTRANCE FOYER

The main foyer of the building. To the right you can see the reception desk. From here you are directed to the various parts of the building. Beyond the orange lounge chairs you may be able to see the computer rooms. One is for student access in their own time, say if they do not have access to computers at home. The other is a formal classroom that is used for research.

  1. Are these the only classrooms equipped with computers?

  2. It certainly looks like a very inviting place to learn in. I find that the phsyical layout of the buildings and learning spaces makes a big difference. In a Sydney Vocational School they have a learning space for the students in Years 11 and 12 called a "Learning Commons" where students can work independently online with work to follow up on their class and practical sessions. It seems to work effectively for the students.

  3. All classrooms are equipped with computers. But not all have multiple computers. To do a group research activity we would book one of the computer labs for the day. Alternatively we have a set of 20 smaller portable laptops that we can use in the classroom.

  4. In Sweden many students get their own portable lap top. I think it's very good for the students but it's also a way of recruiting students.

  5. Martina, I agree, it is a way to recruit students. The problem beeing most classrooms are not equipped with enough outlets to charge them and all the student end up sitting in the back of the classroom where the outlets are :)
