Classroom year 2-3

 

 Year 2-3 student use regular computers or workbooks in Agneberg. Most of the classrooms are fitted with projectors and or overhead. There is also a whiteboard. Most classrooms are on the small side. Providing seating for about 20-30 students. Although the Child and recreation program is a VET program, most learning experiences in school is theoretical. The practical elements are situated in their APL, "work-practice" in actual working situations in the field.

Classroom year 1

Since the new School reform GY11 a lot of things have happened in the Child and recreation program as well as in most of the VET programs. The name itself “Child and recreation program” is not fitting to describe the program that has very little to do with children. It is divided into 3 main fields, Sociology, pedagogy and recreation. Such as personal training and securityguards. Many teachers was hoping for a name more in the ways of leadership and health as it would better describe the content of the program. First year student get their own laptop, something that is becoming more common in public as well as private schools is Sweden.

This is an example of a teacher’s workspace. A few teachers have their own spaces while others share. Sharing is the norm and up to 8 teachers can be housed in the same workspace. Most teachers are provided with at laptop that is being used both in their workroom as a planning and communications tool, and in the classroom for teaching purposes. The schools own platform is frequently used by teachers, student, principals as well as other staff to communicate.

In this series of photos you see the different hallways in Agneberg. You can clearly see the different between newer and older building. The school building is situated in several wings on different levels and is for a new teacher like myself a bit confusing to navigate.

All the students have their own locker for books and personal belongings. It is often situated near the classrooms designated to the class. Each class usually have a few main classrooms depending on subjects. Different programs are usually housed in separate wings with the teachers workroom nearby. The top right picture is a corridor on the top floor, it has a view of the library and as you might suspect the little colored papers stuck on the wall is the 3´d year students countdown to graduation.

The 150th anniversary

 

Today, April 18^th is the 150^th anniversary of Agneberg. It was celebrated with speeches from prominent politicians and principals and motivation speakers for the students.  The highpoint of the day was the unveiling of a new logo for the School.

What thoughts do you get, looking at it? 

There were also a gallery with interviews from famous people that had been students of Agneberg and old ledgers with names, pictures and dates dating all the way back 150 years. The school held an open house all day all night for the community to visit.

Agneberg is a charming school with old and new buildings fused together. It is set in central Uddevalla at the end on Kingstreet. Uddevalla is a smal city at the weatscoat of Sweden. Agneberg secondaty school is a school with a very old heritage dated back to 1600´s and Agneberg in its current form is celebrating its 150^th anniversary on Wednesday, April 18.

The school offers a wide range of different 3 year education programmes. Such as Child and Recreation Program, Economy Program, Business and Administration Program, The hotel and tourism program, Faculty program, Restaurant and food program, Social Science program and SPINT - English and internationalization. The School also offers three different asecondary apprenticeship programs, GLU. The main difference between a secondary apprenticeship and other vocational secondary education is that you, as an apprentice, is part of a team on a workplace. Students are 2 days in School and 3 days in work placement.
