ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY
I teach Certificate 3 in Aged Care and Home and Community Care. These Personal Care Workers deliver care which includes personal care, assisting with drug administration, simple would care, taking observations; temperature, blood pressure etc.
It is a big and very responsible task to look after aged care patients. How old are your students and how long is their course?
ReplyDeleteWe have a very diverse group of students. Age varies from 18 to 62 years old from all walks of life. That can be a challenge for the teacher but one I really enjoy. The course is almost a year with time spent out in the workforce as well as in class.
ReplyDeleteI'm just curious - what is your background Donna? Are you a nurse?
ReplyDeleteThat a great way to learn about kidneys. I wonder if I am allowed to to that in a classroom in Sweden. I will found out and do it if I can!
ReplyDeleteYes Jenniann I am a nurse. Have been for nearly 30 years. Wow that makes me sound old. :) Lots of changes in the health care system here over the last 10 years. Decided to teach to try and make a difference to the quality of Aged Care/Disablity Care workers. It wasnt that long ago that you could do this work at this level without any formal qualifications. You could go into peoples home and attend to their personal care with no training.A horrible thought. Now thankfully it is much more regulated.
ReplyDeleteThe Aged Care/Disablity Care workers here in Sweden is not that popular, work a lot of weekend and it pays them bad, in a 10 years period we have probably not enough staff for Aged Care , how is your situation Donna?
ReplyDeleteI agree, Donna & Martina. It´s a problem then we don´t have enough workers in age-care and I think it is common to hire uneducated persons to take care of eldery people in our society. How can we change this?
