In Healthcare pedagogy are we discussing how important communication is in all caring situations. The students get information from the teachers and after that they work with different cases in small groups.

  1. Yes communication is the key. What sort of cases do the students work on in small groups? In Australia these might be called 'case studies' or scenarios. Each one has a problem that needs to be solved and students work on these.

  2. To try communication skills I think role-playing is a good way of practicing. They got a case where they are diffrent persons, for exampel on is not giving eye contact. After the role-playing they describe their feelings. Ste studnets can be quite emotionally. It is an intresting way of learning.
I've been working parttime as a teacher for almost 2 years and now I think I'm ready to try diffrent and intresting way of teaching!

  3. I agree role playing gives students the chance to 'think themselves into other people's shoes' as we say in Australia. It is particularly useful in occupations like aged care and health care.It is important as you say to talk to the students after the role play as it can become quite emotional. How do you help your students cope with these emotions?
